So, it looks like they DON’T sleep all the time!

I guess the first few weeks of life of a newborn are a tease for the parents. When we had Syd in the hospital and then her first week home, we changed her diaper, fed her, she fell asleep and then woke up 3 hours later to be changed and fed again! LOL Now, it is great as she has much more “alert” times but, they seem to come at the WORST moments (like 3AM or 5AM).

We had our 2 week appointment with the midwife yesterday and Syd is healthy and happy. She is now 7LBS! So, she has gained 1LB since her first few days as although she was born 6LBS, 9OZ, she lost 9OZ and then started her gain. She is eating like a piggy and I was just unable to keep up with the breastfeeding as she was way to hungry and fussy but would take forever to latch. So, our current system involves me pumping in the morning after a warm shower and then either breastfeeding or bottle feeding the pumped milk if she is too fussy. The rest of the day she is formula fed. It seems to be working well for us as she is still getting breastmilk which makes me happy and we are not near tears at every feeding session which makes us both happy. We switched her from the formula the hospital started her on to Nestle Good Start and it seems to be really agreeing with her as she is pooping more than ever (ON HER OWN!).

Our 7 pounder:

After our midwife appointment we went to the mall as we needed a few little things for her and Syd slept the entire time! LOL

Here she is with mommy and daddy:

It was nice to get out in the real world yesterday! Funny story…yesterday was probably the first time since I have had the baby that I wasn’t wearing track pants and a t-shirt. So, just as we are getting ready to leave for the midwifes office, Syd takes a nice big poo. Well, I changed her diaper a bit too early because I guess she was having some trouble pushing the last little bit out. She did this just as I opened and it happened to be FLYING POOPY that I JUST managed to jump out of the way of. The receiving blanket wasn’t so lucky and had to go for a soak! LOL

Well, that is all for now..I am going to go and finish my cold coffee before little miss wakes up!

  1. So sweet!

Suzie, you look GREAT!! Isn’t it nice to go out somewhere!! I took all three of my kids to the mall when they were 2weeks old! Ahh, civilization!!! I still can’t get over how much she looks like you!
    Love, Nicole

    • Re: So sweet!

Thanks Nicole. My nose has come down in size now that the hormones are not fully raging but, it is not quite back to pre-pregnancy form! LOL It was so nice to get dressed and go out! We certainly have to start doing more of that now that she is a bit older.

  2. OMG Sue, she does look bigger!!! Wholly cow, bigger than she did just 5 days ago! What a little piglet 🙂 I can’t wait to see her again (hopefully this week)

    Kisses to Syd,

    Cathy
    🙂

    • Eating certainly is one of her favorite past-times. We always have to have a cloth handy because she sucks so fast, she gets formula EVERYWHERE!

  3. Who knew

The mall has really great photo lighting. You and Pat look so awake and happy! Having the pictures side by side with her older ones – you can see that she’s really getting bigger. I love the flying poopy story….tell it again 🙂

Thanks Pam. I think we are starting to feel human again!

As for the flying poopy story..I am sure there will be MANY more where those came from! LMAO

  4. You look GREAT Suzie!!! Patrick looks like such a proud Daddy. 🙂 Glad you are getting into a schedule that fits with you guys 🙂

    Take Care
