Say hello to our little bean…

We had the IPS (Integrated Prenatal Screening) ultrasound today and everything looked great!  Basically, what they do is take measurements of the nuchal fold which is the collection of fluid beneath the skin at the back of the baby’s neck.  The collection of fluid within the skin is present in all babies but is increased in babies with Down’s syndrome so, the thicker the nuchal fold, the higher the risk.  Anything less that 7mm is considered normal and, Baby Q’s measured at 1.2mm.  As for the other measurements, baby measured 62mm crown to rump and, had a Biparietal Diameter (BPD) of 20mm.  The BPD is the largest circumference of the head…that is all I know.  I am going to see if I can find any reading on it so I can learn more but, I am not sure what the “normal range” is.  Needless to say, the tech said that everything was measuring perfectly.  Pat and Syd got to come in right at the end of the scan and see the baby.  I thought she might freak when she saw me laying on the table like that but, she didn’t even flinch! LOL  We got to see some movement and the lovely heartbeat.  Baby Q was in an ackward positions so, we weren’t able to get really great pictures but, he/she was moving all over the place!

This is the one we refer to as the Alien shot:

I didn’t mark these up but, in this one, baby’s head is down and towards the right.  You can also see the arms there hovering just above the body and, the boy going up towards the left.

This is probably the best one she got I think:

She got the babe lying pretty straight across with the head on the right (side profile) and then the body and then the little bits which are the legs.

and this one cracks me up because of the position:

This is Baby Q basically doing a headstand of sorts.  You can REALLY see the spine in this picture and, something going on in what could be the groin area but, I am just so not sure what that part is.  I guess we will know soon enough.  Eight more weeks and it will be time for the BIG US and the BIG baby gender reveal. LOL
